A cracking start to the new club ride!

A quick picture before the grand depart!

The new club ride aimed at beginners, families and those overweight middle-aged types returning to cycling after eight-month sabbaticals had a superb start this morning - even the rain waited until the cafe stop to start and politely stopped as soon as we were about to re-start. Magic!

As planned, we met up at Afan Argoed Country Park and split into two groups.

The hardriders, led by Nicole Cooke's former training partner, went 'off piste' taking a bewildered club chairman with them who promptly returned when the first hill kicked in. However, before he had a chance to rejoin the 'sedate' group CJ literally went 'off-road' and was found upside down in a ditch by a giggling Martin Edwards who likened him to an upside down woodlouse.

The sedate group took the 'up' line to Cymmer and then continued on to Glyncorrwg, passing the ponds, to the cafe for a well earned cafe stop. The downhill wind-assisted return was an absolute doddle and I think it's fair to say that everyone enjoyed themselves and it great to see the mums and youngsters enjoy this new departure for the club.

If you are reading this and would like to join in then do just that! Simply turn up and introduce yourself - we'll guarantee you'll have a warm welcome!

Aimed squarely at beginners, families and possibly those wanting to get back into cycling we have a new club ride starting at 10.30hrs on each and every Sunday from September 7th onwards. The ride will start from Afan Argoed Country Park and will be totally off-road using the excellent cycle routes up and down the valley from Afan Argoed and these routes are suitable for mountain-bikes, hybrids, tourers and road bikes with slightly larger tyre widths.

All are welcome and if you are reading this with interest but are just feeling a little bit nervous about joining in then fear not! You'll get a big welcome from the Port Talbot Wheelers and we'll make sure that you enjoy the experience of pleasant and relaxed riding in a group in a truly stunning and picturesque valley in all it's Autumn glory.
